Position Overview:
As a Construction Underwriter, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the company's success by underwriting profitable and sustainable business within the agreed team appetite. You will play a pivotal role in portfolio management, product development, and fostering strong client relationships.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Underwriting Excellence:
- Assess and write profitable business aligned with the team's appetite.
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of risks into the underwriting system.
- Collaborate with the Pricing Actuarial Team to develop effective rating tools.
Portfolio Management:
- Monitor the portfolio closely to maintain long-term profitability.
- Work closely with the Claims Manager and team to manage claims effectively.
Client and Broker Relations:
- Attend client, broker, and industry meetings to enhance relationships and deepen understanding of risks.
- Facilitate effective communication across the team to identify opportunities for collaboration.
Product Development and Adaptation:
- Contribute to the development of new insurance products and adaptation of existing ones to meet market demands.
Compliance and Operational Efficiency:
- Ensure coverholders and delegated authorities operate within contract terms and standards.
- Liaise with the IT department to ensure underwriting systems meet business needs.
- Collaborate with the Cat modeling area to optimize risk management practices.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Assist in compiling and presenting statistics, including income and aggregation reports for senior management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related field (preferred).
- Strong understanding of construction insurance underwriting principles.
- Exceptional analytical and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proven track record in underwriting profitable business.
- Experience in product development and portfolio management is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Lloyd's market and regulatory requirements is a plus.
