Role: Technical Underwriting Governance Manager

The Technical Underwriting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day technical underwriting governance activities of one of this Global Insurers business units

This role is responsible for developing and embedding the underwriting governance culture within the business units.

The Technical Underwriting Manager is a collaborative / oversight role responsible for:

  • Helping Business Units to develop and maintain their underwriting governance framework including:
    • Underwriting policy and procedures
    • Line of Business guidelines
    • Terms of reference of various underwriting committees and working groups; and
    • Letters of authority
  • Overseeing the training offered to underwriting staff on existing or new procedures/processes
  • Ensuring all underwriting management documents are stored centrally following any update/review and approval
  • Coordinating system updates following any review of underwriting management documents
  • Liaising with the Business units to keep updated underwriting registers and logs Ensuring that all underwriting regulatory requirements) are met
  • Identifying issues that may span Business Unit and escalate as necessary
  • Liaise with assigned businesses on identified issues
  • Develop and follow up on action items
  • Help to ensure that external and internal underwriting requirements are met by Underwriters
  • Help to ensure that a manual or automated process for identifying Underwriting exceptions and breaches of authority are identified
  • Responsibility for the overview of exception reports and appropriate action taken by the Business Unit
  • Act as an escalation point for any underwriting and/or regulatory breaches, incidents or issues
  • Liaise with assigned businesses on identified issues
  • Ensure adequate peer review and audit of risks underwritten
  • Monitor exception reporting
  • Oversee follow up on action items resulting from audits
  • Identify issues that may span business units globally and escalate as necessary
  • Leverage solutions from other teams where possible
  • Representing the underwriting governance function at various internal and external meetings
  • Acting as advisor to internal teams regarding underwriting governance matters.
  • Ad hoc reviews and reporting as required

Requirements: You would have extensive experience doing a similar role in the London Insurance Market
