Position Overview

Working with and as part of the senior Claims Leadership team to manage the Core claims operations of the Specialty claims function, to ensure compliance with agreed Specialty Claims Management Principles and Minimum Standards. Ensure optimal operational efficiency, excellent client service, quality, professionalism and financial performance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage the performance and resources of the Core claims team so that there is proactive handling of reported claims and reasonable and proper case reserves are set in accordance with reserving philosophy/policy.
  • To comply with all regulatory requirements, including Specialty Claims Management Principles and Minimum Standards and Group policies relating to underwriting in particular the Treating Customers Fairly Policy & Guidance
  • Manage the handling of contentious and high-profile claims.
  • Oversight of day-to-day engagement with outsourced claims management/TPA's, including selection of third-party administrators and lawyers.
  • Work closely with Head of Claims Operations and Delegated Authority to support TPA / MGA performance and effective resolution of recommended actions arising from claims audits undertaken.
  • Working with reinsurance recovery team to ensure correct reporting of inwards claims to outward reinsurers.
  • Production of claims related management reports
  • To provide claims input to underwriters on coverage and/or wordings matters and to the actuaries on loss development and reserving issues.
  • Management of related subrogation and fraud activity
  • £2 million claims authority for lines of business within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that Company's procedures, policies and regulations as relevant to remit.
  • Ensure you and your direct reports complete all mandatory and job specific training requirements in line with the required time frames.
  • Complete the required number of hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as it pertains to your role and applicable qualifications and ensure this is logged in Workday. Ensure your direct reports complete and log any required CPD.
  • Fully participate in all applicable fitness and proprietary and Performance Review processes. Promptly advise your line manager/HR as to any matter that may be relevant and/or impact your ability to perform in your role.
  • Ensure your direct reports complete and log any required CPD. Complete the annual Performance Review process for all direct reports, to include completing a thorough assessment as it relates to performance against delivery in post, the core competency framework and conduct standards. Ensure appropriate objectives are set, learning and development plans completed and that any performance or behaviour not meeting expectations is managed promptly and appropriately.
  • Other duties may be assigned in order to meet the on-going needs of the organisation

Qualifications & Experience

ACII qualified - preferred

Educated to Degree level - preferred

Experience

  • Experience managing a claims team with sound knowledge of the claims process.
  • Experience of Specialty business lines
  • Sound experience of technical claims handling and successfully managing a claims team
  • Able to support prioritising team deliverables and execution to ensure expectations are at least met
  • Good understanding of claims handling across the various classes of business.
  • Experience of working routinely and proactively with MI and data.
